Creative Prayer

At Cottesmore St. Mary, we believe in the centrality of prayer in daily school life. Children know that they have a friendship with Jesus and that this is strengthened by talking and listening to God. We encourage all children to participate in prayer and we explore creative ways to lift our hearts and minds to God. Children take part in daily prayer and also have opportunities to pray spontaneously in our sacred spaces around school.

At Cottesmore St. Mary Catholic Primary School, we encourage children to develop a personal relationship with God through spontaneous prayer — prayer that comes from the heart, in the moment. Spontaneous prayer allows children to express their thoughts, feelings, and gratitude to God in their own words, fostering a deep and meaningful connection with their faith.

How we nurture spontaneous prayer

• Classroom Prayer Spaces: Children are invited to share their own prayers during collective and quiet reflection times.
• Whole-School Worship: Opportunities for spontaneous prayer are built into our Celebrations of the Word and assemblies.
• Daily Prayer Moments: We encourage children to offer personal prayers in the morning, before meals, and at the end of the day.
• Guided Christian Meditation: Children are invited to enter a time of stillness and reflection led by their teacher.
• Guided Reflection: Staff support pupils in expressing their own prayers through scripture, music, and moments of stillness.
