Christian Meditation

After lunch, each day, all children meditate. The children repeat the mantra ‘maranatha’, which means ‘Come, Lord Jesus, Come’.

Celebration of the Word

At Cottesmore St. Mary Catholic Primary, we believe that worship is a joyful and loving response to God’s invitation to build a relationship with Him. Guided by the light of His Word, we come together to listen, reflect, and respond through prayer, scripture, music, and quiet reflection. In these moments, we offer glory, honour, praise, and thanks to God, recognising His presence in our lives through Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Aims of Celebrating the Word

Celebrations of the Word are central to the spiritual life of our school. They provide opportunities for every pupil and member of staff to pause, reflect on the mystery of God, and consider spiritual and moral themes within a supportive and faith-filled environment. These shared acts of worship allow us to appreciate the joy and wonder of life, recognise God’s presence among us, and strengthen our sense of belonging as a community united in faith.

Through prayer and reflection, we deepen our understanding of the Gospel and the traditions of the Church, enriching our shared faith experience. We foster gratitude, compassion, and hope, encouraging one another to live out Gospel values in our daily lives. Above all, these celebrations invite us to reflect, to wonder, and to honour the God who loves us unconditionally.

Principles

Every Celebration of the Word at Cottesmore St. Mary Catholic Primary is an act of worship that gives glory and honour to God. It is an important and valued part of school life, reflecting the Catholic identity and mission of our community. Each celebration is thoughtfully planned to ensure it is inclusive, engaging, and appropriate for the age and experience of those involved. These gatherings invite both pupils and staff to encounter God’s Word in a meaningful and accessible way, helping them to grow in their participation in the wider prayer life of the Church.

Pupil Leadership in Prayer

We believe that children’s voices and faith should be central to our worship. Pupils are encouraged to take an active role in planning and leading Celebrations of the Word within their classes and key stages. Through this involvement, they develop confidence, deepen their relationship with God, and learn what it means to live as followers of Christ in everyday life.

Our approach ensures that prayer and worship are not simply delivered to children but shared with them—nurturing a faith that is personal, joyful, and alive.
