Black History Month

Black History in 2009 at Cottesmore was celebrated with the theme: ‘Everyone has a History’.  Each year group had to find out which countries their families originated from and make up their family trees.  This information was then recorded by some Year 6 pupils using a world map.

We then had a special assembly on the 14th October with Bert Williams who is an important figure for Black History in Brighton.  As well as sharing his own family tree which originated from Jamaica he also spoke about the impact of black history on Brighton and encouraged the children to participate in the events he had arranged during Black History Month.
