Art

“Art develops spiritual values and contributes a wider understanding to the experience of life, which helps to build a balanced personality”

Bridget Riley, painter
Art & Design is taught throughout Cottesmore with the overall aim to stimulate creativity, imagination and promote a life long interest and enjoyment in the visual arts in the broadest sense.  Art provides a visual, tactile and sensory experience. It is a unique way of understanding and responding to the world. Pupils use colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes to communicate what they see, feel and think. Through weekly, progressively planned, skill based lessons children learn to make informed value judgements and decisions about their work.  The work of their peers and of other artists and makers are considered and discussed.  Children have opportunities to work on large and small scale works, both individually and in small groups and most importantly enjoy the experience.
