Advent at Cottesmore St Mary
At Cottesmore St Mary we continued to reach out to our community during this season of Advent by holding our first STAR Trail. Cottesmore families displayed their Star of Bethlehem in their windows. The message and idea behind this action was to unite and remind our neighbours about this special season of Advent, especially on the back of a very challenging year with the pandemic. A star is an affirmation of joy and celebration, the star of Bethlehem representing the guidance of God. ‘Star of wonder, star of night, guide us to thy perfect light’. Many thanks to all the families for faking part and sending in their photos and a special thanks to St Joseph's Catholic School, Hollingdean for sharing this super idea with us!
Mrs Breen led an Assembly focusing on Advent, during this assembly she asked us to reflect upon Advent as a time of getting ready for the coming of Jesus. We discussed different ways we could reveal Christ to others during this special time. Mrs Breen introduced a new song which we will learn a new section to each week during advent called 'Light the Advent candle one' by Mary Lu Walker.
Advent is a time for getting ready -'a waiting time'. The first Christians remember a saying of Jesus. 'There's more happiness in giving that in receiving' (Acts 20:35). It can take time to discover that secret!

through the waiting time of Advent,
may we find happiness in giving.
